On Friday, the European Unions health agency ruled out that mRNA COVID-19 vaccinations caused menstrual irregularities. Instances of irregularities in the menstrual cycle were reported post vaccinations with either Moderna or Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines.

Menstrual abnormalities can be caused by a variety of factors, including underlying medical diseases, stress, and exhaustion. According to health officials, several cases of menstrual irregularities have been reported among COVID-19-infected females.

At the same time, the Pharmacovigilance Risk Assessment Committee (PRAC) of the European Medicines Agency is consistently assessing and analyzing the different cases of heavy menstrual bleeding documented which were associated with the two vaccines. Heavy periods are defined as bleeding of increased volume and/or duration that interferes with ones quality of life.

A potential concern triggered among experts, as a study from Norway revealed an increase in menstrual irregularities after receiving either of the two vaccines. The PRAC announced on Friday that it had evaluated all available data on the potential danger but had asked vaccine manufacturers to provide an updated cumulative evaluation of instances.  (ETHealthWorld, June 11, 2022)
